Manchester Arndale is the third-highest performing Three store in the UK. Located in an external shopping centre in Market Street, the store benefits from significant footfall. The scope of this project was to capitalise on the already high performance, and expand the store into the adjacent unit and underline the brand’s high street presence.

Design Alliance created designs for an asymmetrical shop front which proposed a 3m x 3m picture window protruding into the mall. This solution was suggested as it would render a premium shop front whilst minimising both the impact on the existing shop front and hence the overall project costs.

Internal finishes meet the glazing and minimize the visual barrier of the shop front. Of particular note, was the 1.5m long, fully illuminated projecting sign, fixed to a bulkhead and intersecting the glazing at half its length before continuing outside the store. The effect is dramatic.

The images below demonstrate how honestly the execution resonates with the original concept. To the left is one of the construction drawings showing the shop front in section.
